Sofia Teixeira de Freitas is an Associate Professor at the Department of Mechanical Engineering, Instituto Superior Técnico, University of Lisbon, and holds a part-time position at the Faculty of Aerospace Engineering at Delft University of Technology. Her research focuses on the structural integrity of bonded interfaces and layered materials, aiming to create durable and sustainable load-bearing structures.

She holds a Civil Engineering degree from Instituto Superior Técnico and a PhD in Civil Engineering from Delft University of Technology. In 2014, she received the prestigious Delft Technology Fellowship, which led to her appointments as Assistant and then Associate Professor at TU Delft.

Sofia is the recipient of the Young Talent Innovation Award (VENI) from the Dutch Research Council (NWO) and has led or participated in numerous national and international research projects. She served as Chair of the COST Action CERTBOND, a European network of over 90 members from 25+ countries focused on composite bonded joints.

In addition to her technical work, she is an accredited group facilitator and advocates for a collaborative and inclusive academic environment as a foundation for addressing the sustainability challenges of tomorrow.
